Job Description

A Solar Installation Technician is responsible for installing, testing, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The role involves working with solar panels, inverters, mounting structures, electrical wiring, batteries, and related equipment while ensuring installations are safe, reliable, and compliant with technical standards.

Requirements

  • Practical knowledge of solar PV installation and electrical systems.
  • Ability to use electrical testing and installation tools.
  • Basic understanding of DC/AC circuits, electrical protection, and earthing.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong focus on safety, quality, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work outdoors and at heights.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install solar PV panels, mounting structures, inverters, batteries, and electrical components.
  • Assemble and secure solar mounting systems according to approved designs and specifications.
  • Perform DC and AC electrical wiring, cable routing, termination, and connections.
  • Install and connect junction boxes, isolators, distribution boards, meters, and protection devices.
  • Conduct system testing, commissioning, and performance checks.
  • Identify and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and system-performance issues.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on solar PV systems.
  • Inspect equipment and installations to identify faults, damage, or potential safety hazards.
  • Follow electrical safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Read and interpret electrical diagrams, technical drawings, installation manuals, and system layouts.
  • Work safely at heights and operate installation tools and equipment properly.
  • Coordinate with engineers, supervisors, contractors, and customers during installation and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain installation records, inspection reports, service reports, and equipment documentation.
  • Ensure installations meet applicable electrical, safety, and quality requirements.
